Numerous books delve into the subject of pain. Some are highly specialized, catering exclusively to experts, rendering them inaccessible to those new to the field. Others are popularized for the general public but may lack scientific support, occasionally drifting into sensationalism by promising a miraculous cure for even the most stubborn pain. In this book, I have endeavored to maintain scientific rigor while making the information as accessible as possible to readers new to the field.
The objective of this book is to encompass current knowledge regarding the mechanisms responsible for our perception of pain, its chronicity, and its treatment. By concentrating on the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain, we hope to better equip clinicians to comprehend the fundamentals of pain management and integrate this knowledge into their clinical experience. Additionally, we aim to demonstrate how physiological and psychological factors are interlinked, mutually influencing the perception of pain and its treatment.
